Why edit CSV in the browser?
Most people opening Excel for a CSV are doing one of three things: fixing a typo, deleting a few rows, or cleaning up a column. Excel's full feature set is overkill for that — it's like driving a forklift to move a coffee cup.
Browser-based editors load instantly, work on any device, and don't accidentally reformat your dates or strip leading zeros. For 90% of CSV edits, that's all you need.
Editing features
Inline cell edits
Click any cell, type the new value, press Enter. Changes are tracked locally; nothing is uploaded until you choose to save.
Add and remove rows / columns
Use the toolbar to insert new rows or columns wherever you need them. Delete rows with one click. Reordering coming soon.
Search
The search box filters rows in real-time across every cell. Useful for spotting duplicates, finding a specific record, or auditing data.
Save & download
Save edits to your private cloud library or download a clean, properly-escaped CSV. Both options preserve your column order and headers.
What we deliberately didn't build
Formulas, pivot tables, charts, conditional formatting. Those belong in a spreadsheet. OpenCSV is for editing the data itself, not analysing it. If you need formulas, export to Excel after editing — your headers and data come across cleanly.
Privacy by default
Your CSV file lives in your browser's memory while you edit it. It only leaves your device if you explicitly click 'Save to cloud' or 'Share'. There is no analytics tracking on file content.
Frequently Asked Questions
- A CSV file is a plain text file used to store tabular data in rows and columns, with values separated by commas. CSV stands for Comma-Separated Values. It's one of the simplest and most widely supported data formats in the world.
